The monitor lizard is a large lizard that is part of the Varanidae family. There are around 80 species that are considered monitor lizards. They are native to Africa, Asia, and Oceania. Monitors have long necks, powerful tails and claws. Their diet consists of smaller reptiles, eggs, fish, birds, and small mammals.
