The western spotted skunk is part of the Mephitidae family and can be found in western North America. Instead of one white stripe, the western spotted skunk has multiple white stripes or splotches. Due to larger musk glands and the presence of a third thiol compound 2-phenylethanethiol, this species of skunk produces a more pungent spray than the striped skunk.

***The Frontal Bones Of Spotted Skunks Are Most Often Eroded By A Nasal Parasite (Skrajabingylus Chitwoodorum) Resulting In Open Lesions Or Gross Deformation Of The Frontal Region. This Is Unavoidable And Therefore Skulls With This Malformation Are Still Considered First Quality.***
